Photo tips for best portraits
Choosing a photo for your pet portrait can be a tough task, and painful if you've lost your pet.
Here are some tips to help you:
** Important ** The most beautiful drawn portrait starts with a good, clear photo with the pet in the preferred pose that you are happy with.
* Importrant ** Some people prefer happy looking portraits, and some people prefer serious portraits.
If you want your pet looking happy, select a photo of them 'smiling' or lightly panting with their mouth open.
This is NOT something than can be changed after the final portrait is completed.
* Photos that are taken outside capture your pets colouring the best. But not in the snow or direct sunlight
* Do NOT use photos of your pets in the snow, due to lighting, all pets appear very dark and its very difficult to see detail.
* Photos very clear without any blurriness. Also images that have been reduced in size for emailing purposes, lose vital detail needed for these drawings. Please send your images as large as possible or compressed in a zip file.
* Try to pick a photo with your pets usual expression or typical "I love you" or "hey is that food?" look.
* Get on the same eye level as your pet.
* Pet treats, bribery and PATIENCE go along way when posing your pet for a photo. If you are taking a photo of your pet, take 10-30 and chances are there are going to be 2-3 incredible photos that may work excellent for a portrait.
* Outside photos work best, especially on an overcast day. If you take a photo with direct sunlight, your photos may have washed out areas of light that make it hard to see the vital detail. If you want a bit of sunlight, try to have the sun behind you while you take your photos. Early morning lighting works best.
* Keep the distractions to a minimum, (ex. keeping other pets and kids away while your taking your photos)
* Try to get all angles (when possible) of your pets face side and straight on shots of your pets face.
Remember: Happy smiling portraits have opened mouths (dogs only) and closed mouth is more posed, thoughtful and serious looking.
